Frequently Asked Questions
What is stem cell therapy?
It is a regenerative medicine procedure that uses mesenchymal stem cells with the goal of supporting tissue repair processes, modulating inflammation and promoting functional recovery, according to medical indication.
What is stem cell therapy used for?
It is used as support in conditions such as:
- Joint pain and osteoarticular diseases
- Muscular or sports injuries
- Chronic inflammatory processes
- Some autoimmune diseases
- Cellular aging
Is stem cell treatment safe?
Every medical procedure has benefits and risks. At Clínica Nieves, we work with quality, biosafety and professional supervision protocols to perform controlled procedures and carefully select each patient.
How long does the procedure take?
Generally, it is an outpatient procedure that can last between 1 and 3 hours, depending on the type of application (intra-articular or intravenous).
How long does recovery take?
Most patients can resume their activities in a short time. However, each case is different and the doctor will provide specific recommendations.
Can I combine my treatment with tourism in Casanare?
Yes! Many patients take advantage of their visit to enjoy experiences such as:
- Wildlife sighting (the 5 titans of the plains)
- Birdwatching
- Ecological tours
These activities can complement your stay with rest, emotional well-being and connection with nature.
Do you treat patients from other cities or countries?
Yes. At Clínica Nieves we welcome national and international patients and provide guidance to facilitate their experience during their stay in Yopal.
Do I need a prior evaluation before undergoing stem cell treatment?
Yes. It is essential to carry out a personalized medical evaluation to determine if you are a candidate for treatment and define the appropriate protocol.
How much does stem cell treatment cost?
The cost may vary depending on the patient's condition and the type of therapy required. We invite you to contact our team and schedule an evaluation to receive a personalized plan.
What results can I expect from stem cell therapy?
Response varies depending on diagnosis, disease stage, age, medical history and follow-up. Some osteoarticular conditions have stronger clinical support than others. During your initial evaluation, our team explains the scope, limitations and protocol indicated for your case.
How long does it take to notice improvement after stem cell therapy?
First changes typically appear between 4 and 12 weeks, with maximum effect between 3 and 6 months. Each patient responds at their own pace, which is why post-procedure follow-up is part of the protocol.
What are the most common side effects after stem cell treatment?
Mild pain and inflammation at the application site and, occasionally, flu-like symptoms (fatigue, low-grade fever). These usually resolve within 48 to 72 hours. Your doctor will tell you which signs should prompt an immediate consultation.
Can stem cell treatment worsen my condition?
That is not expected, but a temporary worsening of symptoms during the first 2 to 4 weeks is possible in some cases. This is why we carefully select each patient and maintain follow-up after the procedure.
Do I need multiple sessions of stem cell treatment?
It depends on your diagnosis and how you respond to the first protocol. The general recommendation is to wait 3 to 6 months to evaluate results before considering additional treatment. Your specialist will define this with you based on your progress.
What type of stem cells does Clínica Nieves use?
We work with mesenchymal stem cells, both autologous (from the patient) and allogeneic (from a donor), depending on what your diagnosis indicates. Cell processing is carried out under international quality standards at our allied laboratory, Clínica FOSUNAD.
Are the treatments approved by health authorities in Colombia?
INVIMA regulates tissue banks and cell processing laboratories under current regulations (Decree 2493 of 2004). The therapeutic use of regenerative medicine in Colombia continues to develop at the regulatory level. At Clínica Nieves we work with a certified laboratory and a clear informed consent process, so you know exactly the support and limits of each protocol.
Do I have to travel to another city for treatment?
No. The evaluation and the application are both performed here at Clínica Nieves, in Yopal, Casanare.
What happens if I have discomfort after the stem cell procedure?
Follow-up is direct with our team. If you experience discomfort, contact your advisor or the Clínica Nieves Regenerative Medicine Unit by phone or WhatsApp.
How is the right protocol decided for me?
We do not offer a standard protocol for all patients. Dr. Leidy Pérez and the Clínica Nieves team evaluate your clinical history, diagnosis, and imaging to define the type of cell, the route of application, and the number of sessions appropriate for your case.
